ARTIST’S STATEMENT
I am Ludlow Lambertson, an artist whose first love is drawing, followed by painting, sculpture and wall reliefs. My compositions are inspired by all of the natural world, in particular nature’s cathedrals - trees, saguaro cactus, and mountain peaks. My love of man’s architectural creations comes from all periods of history - oriental temples, shrines, church spires, skyscrapers, towers and finials.
As an avid world traveler, birdwatcher and nature lover I’m always seeking out new material for my artwork. The surfaces of my paintings and drawings are mostly derived from my studies of birds and flowers particularly their iridescent and metallic qualities.
Although inspired by all the major movements in art history, the focus in my artwork is on what I call towers. Within the towers are calligraphic symbols representing what I love in nature.
Incorporated into the sculptures and wall reliefs are high-density foam, wood, found objects, metal, lucite, plastics, marbles, dichroic and stained glass.
The major artists that have moved my artwork forward are Arshile Gorky, Matta, Yves Tanguay, Robert Motherwell, Jackson Pollock, and Frank Stella.
Studied at the Art Students League of New York under the G.I. Bill, earning a Certificate in Fine Art.
Art instructor for junior high, high school, adult education and the learning disabled.
Exhibitions in solo and group shows in museums and galleries in New York, Connecticut and Florida.
My artwork is represented in numerous private and public collections.
